Getting Real with our Children

The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, the grass is getting greener.... I love this time of year! There's something so special about spring and the newness of life it brings.

I also love this time of year because of Easter!

Easter is one of my most favorite holidays. I love dying eggs with the kids, having big family egg hunts, buying little Happy's for our children's Easter baskets... all that fun stuff!

But, I guess the most special part I love about Easter is that it is the time that our Savior willingly layed down His life for me, so that I could be forgiven for my sins, and be with Him for eternity!

Some people think our family is crazy because as parents, we have made the decision, that for our family, we would be truthful with our children and tell them that there isn't an Easter bunny. Or for that matter, a Santa clause, tooth fairy, and whatever else I'm missing:) Because.... we felt the best way to teach them about our Jesus and what He's done for us, was to take all the junk out of it.

Now of course our children get presents and Easter baskets, we're not trying to be that crazy. But they also know that that's not what we celebrate those holidays for. (And we also felt it was important for them to recognize that we work hard for what they have, God has blessed us with the means to be able to give them these things, so in turn, they need to be thankful to Him and us for what they have.)

You would be surprised at the difference it's made in our son to know the truth! He's much happier during the holidays because he doesn't have to be scared of a ginormous bunny walking through the door and also, there's a new sense of closeness with him because he knows that we've been honest with him on these things.

Anyway, my point is that sometimes we tend to make these holidays so commercialized, without even realizing it, that we forget to teach them the truth. We tend to want to hang on to the "junk" and skim the truth and think it's enough.... in reality...it's not.

Britt and I have started a tradition with Nate and Maggie leading up to Easter, hoping that it will make an impact on their lives and teach them a deeper meaning of the holiday.

Tonight we sat down with them, as we will every night until the day of His Resurrection and explain to them what happened on this day. We started with Palm Sunday. The day He began His journey into Jerusalem to be crucified on the cross for our sins.

He sent His disciples into Jerusalem to bring back a donkey and a colt so that He could fulfil the prophesy of the Messiah entering Jerusalem on a donkey and a colt. Then He started His journey into Jerusalem where He would later be crucified on a cross for us! We told them as they say their prayers tonight to really think about Jesus and what He did on this day. Think about what was probably going through Jesus' mind and what He must have felt during this time. And to also thank Him for entering Jerusalem and not turning His back on us.

I pray that you will take the time this week to teach your children about the true meaning of Easter and don't just expect someone else to do it or hope that they will pick it up along the way.

If all they're focusing on is the Easter bunny and getting candy then you've already lost. I challenge you to bring it back to Jesus.

Good old fashioned past time

These boys LOVE baseball!

Time out for lunch

Spring Break Fun at the Park
Today turned out to be such a fun day for me and the kids! I got to spend some good quality time with one of my best friends that I never get to see and the kids enjoyed playing with their cousins and having a picnic at the park!
I was just thinking how blessed I am to be able to spend time with my kids and to be able to have special days like this, every day!
God is good!

What a beautiful day! But, not such a fun day around the Williamson house. We began potty training today and it was a complete disaster! So, we decided we would stop and try again later when she's ready.
Aside from all that, we did manage to break ground on our garden today! One of my favorite times of the year! I love planting my own vegetables and watching them grow.
Such a blessing and marvelous miracle from God!
Looking forward to getting outside tomorrow and enjoying some warm sunshine with the kids! Hopefully get our hands dirty planting something:)

Love ya'll!

Well, we've had a full schedule this week! With baseball starting up, Britt being out of town for school, Maggie being, well, just Maggie:), and trying to keep school up too..... I'm exhausted! But, still sooo blessed.

Nate and his cousin Dylan have really gotten into playing marbles lately, so I did manage to whip up their own little marble bags! Never sewn anything before and I have a new sewing machine, so I was very proud of myself. I made them out of felt and added some USM logos from old T Shirts! They were so proud, so that made me happy:)

Also, we're going to start potty training Maggie on Monday and from the looks of things this morning..... it's not looking so promising..... that's all I'm saying.

You are for Me

As a mother, a pastor's wife, a teacher, as a Christian woman.... my daily life is not always easy. I struggle. I struggle with life in general...keeping sin out of my life, trying to handle things on my own, raising my children in a Godly home, being a supportive and encouraging wife to a pastor/husband, staying grounded in His Word..... the list goes on. And I think we all struggle if truth be known, especially if we're trying to handle it all on our own.

Lastnight I was so fortunate enough to be able to attend a worship service like I have never experienced before. And one of the songs we sang pierced my heart and overwhelmed me with emotion because God was speaking to me at that very moment! There I stood humbled before the Lord, grieving in my heart because I knew that I was guilty. Guilty of trying to control it all. Trying to handle things in my own way instead of having faith in Him to see me through.

I think we tend to forget that God is God. He is powerful, loving, forgiving, merciful, faithful....He is Almighty God! There is nothing too big for Him, nothing that He can't handle. And, He is always....always here for us.

Love ya'll! Strive to be Different!

I'm posting a video and the words of the song we sang. I encourage you to listen to it and let God speak to your heart.

So faithful
So constant
So loving and so true
So powerful in all you do
You fill me
You see me
You know my every move
You love for me to sing to you

I know that you are for me
I know that you are for me
I know that you will never forsake me in my weakness
I know that you have come down
Even if to write upon my heart
To remind me who you are

So patient
So gracious
So merciful and true
So wonderful in all you do
You fill me
You see me
You know my every move
You love for me to sing to you

I know that you are for me
I know that you are for me
I know that you will never forsake me in my weakness
I know that you have come down
Even if to write upon my heart
To remind me that

I know that you are for me
I know that you are for me
I know that you will never forsake me in my weakness
I know that you have come down
Even if to write upon my heart
To remind me who you are

What a Beautiful Day that the Lord hath Made!

"This is the day that the Lord hath made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it!"
Psalm 118:24

What a beautiful day the Lord created today!
I hope no one had any complaints about today because it was truly gorgeous outside!
Unfortunately we were a little spread out as a family today.....
Nate was enjoying some quality time with his cousins at a baseball game,
Britt had a wedding to officiate, and so it was just Maggie and me left to enjoy the day!
We had a lovely day blowing bubbles, drawing silly faces with chalk outside, picking flowers (aka-weeds), feeding Grammy's chickens, chatting with Great Granny...even got to play with some cousins at Grammy's house!
It was truly a FULL day of fun!
Maggie's tuckered out and hopefully off to sleep,
Britt's having a last minute conversation with the Lord before bed,
Nate should be home any minute, and I'm about to pour myself into His Word and replenish myself for another beautiful day tommorow!
Goodnight all! Sweet Dreams!

Grammy's Chickens aka Bak Bak's:)

Fun times with cousins Sandy and Gavin

I love my Grammy!

Blowing Bubbles with Mommy or "mom" now.
That's her new word for me these days....?

Sweet times

I love my little girl!

they are a reward from him."

Creative Critters

Mr. Catepillar

Isn't Thumper adorable?!

How cute is he?!! I made "tweet" out of pom pom's, but I went to hobby lobby tonight and discovered you can buy a whole box of these critter's for a couple of dollars already made!:) Oh well, I'm proud of him anyway.

We made these butterflies out of coffee filters. A huge hit with Maggie and Dylan!

Cousin Dylan was here for a play date and got to join in the fun on this craft! They loved spraying the water and using the hair dryer to dry them:)

Ok, so I think I'm addicted to FamilyFunGo.com! They have the cutest craft ideas and I've been having so much fun creating them with the kids this week! The sock animals are the most fun to do. Never knew there were soo many things you could create out of a simple sock?! Thought I'd share what all we've made so far. Looking forward to making felt food on Friday!

Our Homeschooling Goals for the Week:

-Nate's memory verse for the week:
"Do not copy the behaviors of this world, but let God change the way you think." Romans 12:2
He has a memory verse each week to memorize and for his copy work as well.

We've finished up his 1st grade Math books last week, so I'm debating on whether to go ahead and order the 2nd grade or to just give him worksheets for the remainding of the year. So, this week I've been reviewing counting money, telling time, and a little addition/subtraction as well.

In reading, we'll be finishing up his core readers as well this week. So, we'll start on reading other books of interest to finish out the year and onto in summer. I'm thinking of starting him on a reading program for the summer so that he can earn special prizes for completing books and also I want to encourage his interest in reading, so I thought it would be a fun way to do that:)

Other than that, we'll of course do some fun crafts and art projects and spend some time doing some fun stuff together!

Homeschooling has been going so much better for me than the beginning of the year. I found I was putting wayyy to much pressure on myself trying to accomplish things unrealistically each day. And it was putting unnecessary pressure on the whole family. So, we made some changes, and now things are much better for all of us!

That's the beauty of homeschooling. You go with the flow of your family and what works best for you! Now, we school while Maggie's napping and read in the evenings after she goes to bed. Much easier and much more realistic for our family at this time.
I also wanted to share Nate's recent field trip with the Homeschooling Group to Stennis Space Center. They had a great time! Thanks Aunt Karen for taking him!:)

The Church

Oh God's Church today is greatly distressing me!

I was just telling Britt yesterday that I get so tired of waiting on His Church to wake up and get serious about Him!

And I know, I've been there, we all have, when we were just playing church. We just showed up because it was the right thing to do or so that we wouldn't have a guilty conscious for the rest of the week..... I've been there.

But nothing breaks my heart more than to see the same people in His Church come in day after day with no spark or fire for the Lord our Jesus. You can just tell that there is no desire to grow anymore in their walk, they're completely content to live just the way they are..... Stale..Tired....

There's something wrong with that church.

If you're not growing as a Christian and not desiring a closer relationship with God, then you might want to check your priorities at the door. I was telling Britt, too, that oh, if we would just get down on our knees more as a body of believers and cry out to Him! What awesome changes we would see in the lives of His people! You don't see that anymore in the Church. People have forgotten how to fall on their knees before the Lord and pray. It's really sad to me.

One of my favorite books of the Bible is Acts because it facinates me to see how the first church devoted themselves to one another and to the Lord.

"They joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship. Sharing in the Lord's Supper and prayer." Acts 2:42

"And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything they had. They sold their possessions and shared the proceeds with those in need. They worshiped together in the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity- all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved." Acts 2:43-47

Now, what would happen if we were to follow the ways of the church in Acts? The real way God intended Church to be.

There's going to be a rude awakening for "so called" Christians today if we don't start getting serious about the Lord and His Church. A Church should be striving to win lost souls for the Lord, growing continuously in His Word, have a fire for the Lord that can not be contained! Meeting together, loving eachother, and praying together.

What does your church look like?

I encourage God's Church to rekindle that flame for Him. Take the time to humble yourselves before the Lord, fall on your knees and cry out to Him, plead with Him for deliverance! Now is the time to get serious about Him and His Church!

Love ya'll!
